Our panels are made from:
- Glass Reinforced Polyester
- Lightweight and flexible material generically known as kevlar
- Carbon fibre
- GRP is generally used for bumpers but is also used for wings, bonnets, tailgates and bumpers as specified.
- The smaller panels - excluding bumpers - are cured in a low temperature autoclave.
- This heat treatment provides extra strength and therefore panels can be thinner and lighter than standard grp.
- This is the same process developed by Matra for their Bagheera and Murena sports cars and later for the Espace up to 2002. Espaces may not generally interest you but take a closer look next time you see one. The paint may have flaked off but even a 1985 car may still have all its panels in perfect condition. The lightness of the plastic panels was just one of the reasons for the car's success. Don't confuse with the bloated monster built by Renault from 2003 onwards!
- We've used the term kevlar* throughout the site as the material we use is generic rather than being the Dupont Kevlar. Used in police shields this material is very durable and can withstand hard knocks such as offroad incidents without sustaining damage.
- We use carbon fibre for show parts such as spoilers where weight is all important. Please look elsewhere for carbon fibre bonnets, we do not make them.
